Leaf falls to my feet I pick it up, it’s green with streaks of brown and crimson not fully a fall leaf but it’s fallen-I haven’t seen the fullness of Autumn in years, just glimpses in Oakland California, those flaming yellow trees near my last apartment before I moved to South Carolina. Ahh, there’s the message; we never know when we will fall from a seemingly secure perch, where the swirling winds of change will blow us. Left my Bay Area life behind, packed up my 42 years of living and left like a thief in the night;
This leaf is fully surrendered it has no choice- I made a choice I chose to go when my dear friend invited me to South Carolina, saying “you are very welcome to join me , you are my family too” did she really expect I’d go so soon?

COVID the big swirling whirlwind the hurricane blowing all our lives apart- the illusion of security of how I was in the same-ness day in & out, shattering routines into pieces and bits, how to shop, visit, do laundry, where is my safety? A Course In Miracles says, “In my defenselessness lies my safety” In my surrender lies my sanity.
This tiny leaf whose time of dancing in the wind, shuddering from raindrops, perhaps once a landing pad for a ladybug, its time is over.
Be here now, ya’ never know when the twig will snap.
A tiny virus
free

falling
into
billions

of hosts
has
up
rooted
us all.
